Hall of Fame
Here we pay tribute to some of PABRC’s most well known & much loved faces; past & present. All of these legends have been long standing members of the club & are strong characters in their own unique ways. They are some of our most amazing & treasured members; 2 & 4 legged, who contributed so much to member’s enjoyment of club events over the years.
Kim Ursell - Treasurer 2006 - 2024
We very sadly lost our wonderful riding club stalwart & treasurer Kim Ursell on 24/02/24. She passed away peacefully with her wonderful husband Guy at her side, after being rediagnosed with cancer a year ago.
As a club we owe Kim a huge debt of gratitude – she started this club off her own back with Sue Greaves over 18 years ago & has grown it from strength to strength since, to the thriving community it is now. Her unbridled enthusiasm to make this club inclusive & open to everyone wanting to enjoy their horses at whatever level, was her driving force to create the club you all see today. On a personal level she has so many amazing friends within the club, she was its beating heart & will be hugely missed by so many of us.
All of the committee would like to thank Kim for her unwavering dedication to this wonderful club & all its members … without her we wouldn’t be the club we are today.
CRAX – owned & ridden by Claire Sheldrake.
Cracker was a legend among legends in the club, taking part in many camps, clinics & competitions over the years. His fabulous personality & heart were almost as big as his tail (which was enormous!), & his love for life (& a good razz!) made him the wonderful character many of us knew & loved.
FRODO – owned & ridden by Ann Butler.
Frodo’s calm nature & sensible attitude to life (unless he heard the hunt horn!), made him a firm favourite over the many years he attended club events. He turned his hoof to most things over the years, from cross country to quadrille riding. He was the kindest of horses & is very much missed
OZZY – owned & ridden by Frances Kelly. Ozzy & Frances’s epic partnership was unquestionable – he was always kind & wise beyond his years & they were a solid team at so many riding club activities. He gave his all in everything he did was another well loved face at pabrc events.
PATSY – owned & ridden by Lynn Durbin.
A feisty lady with the determination of a lion & the heart & soul to match. Lynn & Patsy were partners through & through & as such enjoyed many camps together, especially the XC! They also took part in dressage, showjumping & eventing in their time together in the club.
PLUM – owned & ridden by Christine & Lorraine Soper
Plum was one of our founding members, joining the club in 2010. She, Christine & daughter Lorraine enjoyed almost all of the activities the club put on over the years from camps to dressage, jumping lessons & XC … & even in her latter years she would still come along & take part in our fun rides. She was the ultimate allrounder riding club horse & the prime example of the perfect thoroughbred; she turned her hoof to just about anything over the years & the pair of them always did everything with big smiles on both of their faces.
SPICE – owned & ridden by Lucie New
Spice (or Lady Garlandhayes to give her her racing name!) enjoyed her second career as a riding club horse to the full. She & Lucie competed successfully at many dressage competitions together, winning the RoR Dressage League aswell as attending camps & clinics with PABRC & RoR. She could be spice by name & spice by nature, a lady who knew her own mind, but her close partnership with Lucie meant they achieved so much their years together.
PADDY – owned & ridden by Kathryn Cresswell
This Irish cheeky chappie & Kathryn made a formidable partnership in any discipline they turned their hooves to… be that showjumping, cross country, hacking on the hills or trec. Paddy had a wonderful positive outlook on life & was always up for anything (esp if it involved galloping & jumping!). His smiley face was always a favourite to see over the door at the huge number of camps he took part in with the club. He was also blessed with a wicked sense of humour & an awesome post fence flybuck which Kathryn always sat so elegantly!
WHISTLE – owned & ridden by Sarah Horne
Always one for the drama… Whistle was a ‘mega talented but needs direction’ PABRC member who competed at everything eventing in his youth, but also participated in many of our camps & lessons with his owner & partner in crime Sarah Horne. Despite his occasional aversion to spooky fences they competed very successfully for many years together & had a lot of fun along the way. He was a charming, handsome devil, with a welcoming whicker & the most beautiful doe eyes. But if he flapped his tongue out however – watch out!
